Help from the city of Long Beach at Loynes garden
I had help from the city of Long Beach pulling out some over grown agaves at the Loynes guerrilla garden today. I met with Alex the new supervisor for the parks and recreation department and a crew from Aztec the contractor for that part of the city.
They helped me remove about 6 big Agave decipiens which they hauled away along with 4 bags of weeds I pulled before they showed up.
I brought over 60 large decipiens pups back to SCGG headquarters that I’ll pot up and plant later this year.
I also removed another bunch of Aloe Californias – more than 40 – as well as some more Aeoniums and a large Agave americana (below) all of which well be used in a guerrilla garden later this year. So that’s over 300 plants gleaned already from the Loynes garden this year. I’ll be doing a major planting at Loynes in the next few weeks.
I also stopped by my friends Hanks house and he gave me 4 large Agave attenuata that will also be used later this year. This year is off to a great start as I got a phone call from Adriana about a friend of hers that has a bunch succulents to donate. So it looks like this year might be as good as last for donations. I lost count but I know we received well over 1000 plants in donations in 09.
