“New” Guerrilla Garden in Pico Rivera, Ca.
Happy New Year!
This is the third try to put a guerrilla garden in at this spot. There are still a few plants from the first attempts. Hopefully “the third time is a charm” as they say. It was a spontaneous solo effort. I found myself in the mood to do something for the new year so I loaded the truck up yesterday after work and got out early this morning. It is just the first of many plantings at this location. The ground is still a little wet from Wednesdays rain and so it was easier to dig then in the summer. But this site is all fill dirt and it’s full of hundreds of large chunks of concrete, asphalt, and a tons of broken red bricks. You can’t dig a hole anywhere without striking some kind of foreign object. Next time I’ll won’t bring my best shovel.
Here’s an old before photo from a few years ago before they installed the lights. Someone stole the copper wire out of the poles the week they put them up and it took the government over 3 years to repair them. But they work now and the area was well lit even though the sun wasn’t up when I got there.
As you can see by the photos below there is a lot of room for more plants. It’s right off the 605 in Pico Rivera so I don’t know how many people would show up but I might have a group dig here soon.
I think an agave peace sign will look great in this area.
